Dreaming of taking to the track with the Northern Brisbane Rollers, but not sure where to start?
Join our Development Program!
Formerly called Fresh Meat, our Development Program teaches you everything you need to know to get involved in roller derby. Our Development Program is perfect for those who want to compete on track as a skater, become a referee, or just learn new skating skills in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment.
Our Development Program runs for 12 weeks and there are 2-3 intakes per year.
Throughout the 12 week on-skates program we cover the foundation skills you will need for the rest of your derby journey. Skaters aged over the age of 18 are able to join our Development Program.
We strive to make all our sessions enjoyable, interesting and educational so you never feel like you’re bored or not being challenged!
How to get join our Development Program?
- Keep an eye out on our website or Facebook page for information sessions on upcoming intakes. These off-skates sessions give you all the info you need before signing up.
- You must have some basic skating skills to be able to participate in our Development Program:
– Confidently stand up and skate in a forward direction without assistance.
– Complete a full lap of the track at a moderate pace, without stopping or falling.
– Come to a complete stop without assistance, or falling. - If you’re keen to join NBR as a non-skating official, we still recommend you attend one of our Development Program intake information sessions to find out everything you need to know in getting involved.
If you want to know more about the Development Program and how you can get started, email us at freshmeat@northernbrisbanerollers.com.au. We’ll let you know when the next rotation is starting and all the other info you’ll need.
